I love the the colouring and the streaks done and the staff are always polite and attentive. Would go there anytime

This place is amazing and apparently no longer a school but staffed with talented stylists that have completed advanced training with Aveda. I had a cut done with Jenn who started the service with an aromatic scalp massage and I even got my makeup touched up afterwards. I referred a friend and got a full size shampoo and conditioner! I highly recommend this place if you want to be pampered without breaking the bank.

Just got back from my first time at the Aveda academy. My hair was done by a grad student, he was fantastic! I'm a natural blonde and wanted to go a bit lighter while still looking natural, and not a high maintenance 'do. Donald listened and did exactly what I wanted...will return again!! (I've been going to the same stylist for 10 years but can't justify the commute any more). Hand massage was great too.

I have had my hair colored several times at Aveda, mostly by students.  The first time was great, but on following visits the technicians found it hard to match previous color, resulting in uneven results. I'm not sure why this should happen as they are supposed to keep a record of previous color applications. Subsequently, I booked with the educator.  He was a nice guy but seemed a bit distracted, perhaps because he had to supervise students whilst  coloring my hair.  I did not find this a great expereince.  That having  been said the products are fantastic, but I would agree with Wroxy they are a mixed bag.
I'm still looking for a good sylist.

I have had the best cuts ever with one of their educator stylists. Having fine, straight hair and being of a "mature" age, it is amazing to have a cut that lasts way past  6 weeks in terms of keeping the shape and easy to manage.

I LOVE Aveda Academy. I have since moved out of province, but whenever I come back to Vancouver I make an appointment here. Great service and great products. I have always booked with a graduate and not a student, and have had no problems. The prices are very reasonable and the experience is always enjoyable.

I was searching for a reliable stylist for years and finally found one at the Academy. I've always had amazing service (the scalp massages are amazing) and I get compliments on my hair all the time. On top of that it's the best price for colour I've found, before I was spending $200 +, now it cost me less than $100!!

The credit card thing isn't really a big deal... you have to do it for other types of reservations; kind of seems reasonable especially if people don't show up for their appointments.

I would recommend trying it out...

I've been going there for years and find it a real mixed bag.  Some people give great service and great cuts/colors and others don't listen and do what they want to do.  You have to be careful.  Also, if you are late, theymay not let you in, even if u have tried calling them to say you'll be a few minutes late.

I attended this salon for the first time. and loved it I couldnt believe the pampering! and the students are very well trained, any questions they had, there was no hesitation to go to an instructor and ask for help. everyone was friendly and knoweledgeable. and I did give a credit card number...I would do it for a hotel reservation wouldnt I? anywyas ladies, if you have the patience, I definetly recomend this salon!

I attempted to book an appointment at this salon as I used to go there and was very happy there years ago.  However, now they require a credit card on file to secure an appointment.  I have never heard of such a thing, perhaps I am from the dark ages but I think it a a ridiculous practice, I will choose to go elsewhere as I will not be providing a credit card on the phone for an appointment I have not attended

The academy offer haircuts at great prices.  Additional free services of head massages and cosmetic touch-ups are nice perks.

Though I've found during my two visits that the stylists lack in true customer service.  They didn't pay proper attention to what I requested - instead they incorporated their own desires and said the changes to my requests would look better after they'd already snipped away.  Add the misplaced pretension, and it's made for a no-go in the future.

I'll be checking out Axis - it's been voted #1 in Georgia Straight's "Best of Vancouver" hair salon category, which should translate into better customer service.  Their fee structure is also reasonable.
